Trumpington has had a long history with Scouting, until a few years ago when the previous group folded.
In 2017 Scouting relaunched in Trumpington with the brand new 1st Trumpington Scout Group. initially meeting at Trumpington Meadows Primary School; the 1st Trumpington Scout Group now have a Beaver Colony and Cub pack meeting at Fawcett Primary School on a Wednesday evening. The Scout Troop opened in 2018, meeting on Thursday evening at Trumpington Meadows Primary School.
The beaver section enjoys a varied programme which includes a wide range of activities such as Pond dipping, gardening, cooking on fire and of course camping. Yearly fun days are highly anticipated offering the chance to try many adventurous activities all in one day, previous events have included climbing, rafting and grass sledging.
The cub section can often be found, gathered around a fire, up a climbing wall or enjoying their latest pioneering project. Cub camp always has a high turnout and is enjoyed by all. Cubs particularly like joining the annual mystery trip, a trip where only the leaders know the destination.
Meanwhile the scout section enjoys learning survivalist skills such as advanced navigating, first aid and of course fires, as well as expeditions, hikes and rafting and they never pass up an opportunity to get into the outdoors and have fun.
Whilst we want children to be our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Young Leaders we also need Adults to help run the group – not just as Leaders but behind the scenes as well. This new venture in Scouting can only go ahead if we get the people of all ages to make this work.
