Cambridge University Scouts and Guides Club (CUSAGC)
We are a group of students who want to continue being involved in Scouting and Guiding. Officially, we are a Cambridge University Society but are open to members of Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), Cambridge Regional College (CRC) and other colleges in Cambridge. We run events and support the District daily by providing weekly volunteers for groups and providing specialist skills as well as running social activities, camps and training.
We aim to provide a mix of social and adventurous activities for our members, as well as running large events for local scouting and guiding and supporting members who want to help in groups.
Firstly, we run service events, currently 2 per year, for local scout, Guide, Explorer and Senior Section Units and their leaders. These normally take the form of incident hikes. We can also help students find groups to volunteer with if they wish.
Secondly, we organise activities for club members. We have a full programme of activities throughout Cambridge University term time, including kayaking, fires, walks, games nights and craft. We also run a number of trips away during the university holidays. We regularly have a trip around Christmas time, which, for the last few years, has been a walking trip was to the Peak district. Depending on demand, we run other trips throughout the year. This year, we camped at a local campsite for 2 nights and did lots of water activities , including rafting, kayaking, raft-jousting, paddle boarding, as well as bush craft and fire making and cooking.
We are affiliated to SSAGO (Student Scout and Guide Organisation), which means we can also attend national rallies (camps), balls and events. In Summer 2018, we will be hosting a Rally in Newmarket (Jarman Centre).
You can be involved (or uninvolved) in CUSAGC as you like. Activities run weekly during term time, but you do not have to come every week. come when you have time or when you are particularly interested in an activity.
