| Scouting Returning to Trumpington | 23rd January, 2009 |
District Commissioner, Simon Gates, is pleased to announce that the 44th Cambridge Scout Group in Trumpington is set to be revived.
Andrea Rusted and Trish Dennington, former Beaver Leaders with the Whittleford and Duxford Scout Group, have kindly stepped forward to open a brand new Beaver Colony at the Fawcett School on 9th February.
Andrea and Trish have a wealth of experience with the Beaver section and are known to run fun and adventurous programmes for the 6-8 year old Beaver Scouts. They actively organise and support district events, and are known to be keen fundraisers.
Joining Andrea and Trish is long-serving scouter, Wendy Gibson, who is receiving the Medal of Merit in 2009 for services to Scouting, as well as partners Graham and Rachel Quinlan.
On receiving the backing of the Executive Committee, Simon commented;
"I am thrilled that Andrea and the team have agreed to come and open a brand new colony in Cambridge, and the Executive have agreed to back the proposal. Trumpington have been without a scout group for 10 years and I know there is a real demand for scouting in the area."
Over the next year, Simon will be searching for volunteers who will be prepared to expand the group by opening a Cub Pack and Scout Troop, which will offer scouting opportunities to young people aged 8-14 years.
For more information about the Trumpington Beaver Scout Colony, or to come forward as a potential leader for Cubs or Scouts, please contact Simon Gates.
