| Princes Trust breathe New Life into Scout HQ | 14th March, 2008 |
It's an exciting time for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts of the 14th Cambridge Scout Group at St Luke's Church. A team of 15 enthusiastic young people from the Princes Trust have moved in, Changing Rooms style, and revamped the Scouts aging Headquarters building. They have been working hard over the past two weeks painting and decorating the old school building, which even the Scouts admit was beginning to look a bit tired!
The St Luke's Scout HQ has a long history, once the Headmasters office and a classroom at St Luke's Junior School. The main part of the school was demolished in the early 1990s to make way for improvements to the church leaving the Scout Headquarters as the only reminder of days gone past. The school itself has since been relocated.
The Scouts now use the building for meetings, activities and equipment storage and it is essential to the smooth running of the group. All of the 60 plus children and 15 adult volunteers that meet at the 14th Cambridge agree that Princes Trust Team have done a fantastic job.
Chris Ward, Group Scout Leader and former District Commissioner commented:
"We really appreciate the Princes Trust making over our building. They planned what they wanted to do, sourced all the materials and have really cracked on with this mammoth task. We all love the colours and thank them for zapping up our HQ!"
