| District Commissioner announcement and District Annual General Meeting | 13th May, 2005 |
This will be my last Annual General Meeting as your District Commissioner. I will be standing down on 28th June 2005 to take up a role on the new County team.
It is nine years since I became District Commissioner for Cambridge North and four years since we merged the two Cambridge Districts. I have really enjoyed the challenge of managing the District and working with a fantastic team of volunteers. I believe together we have achieved a lot, particularly since the merger. Cambridge Scouting is well positioned to continue to grow and I look forward to seeing this happen in the future.
We are beginning the search for a successor and Richard Hames, County Commissioner designate is hoping to make a new appointment by 28th June 2005.
The Annual General Meeting of Cambridge District Scout Council will take place at the Diamond Room*, Selwyn College, Grange Road, Cambridge on Thursday 19th May 2005 at 7.45 for 8.00pm.
As part of the formal business of the AGM we are looking for nominations from those willing to stand for the District Executive and the County Scout Council. These are important roles;, the District Executive acts as trustee for the District assets and is responsible for the management of Scouting in Cambridge, and the County Scout Council plays a similar role for the County.
The AGM is an opportunity for me to thank you for the part you play in the continuing success of Scouting in Cambridge, to celebrate our successes and to meet fellow Scouting Colleagues informally over a glass of wine and snacks. I am also proud to be presenting awards to a number of Cambridge District Scouters, including the Queen Scout Award to Sarah Scott and the Silver Acorn for Pauline West and Geoff Oliver. I know that you will join me in celebrating not only their success but also that of countless other volunteers to Scouting in the District.
Last year, about 40 present and past Leaders and Scouting supporters attended,, and enjoyed, what is essentially, one of the too few social occasions when we can get together and just talk and enjoy ourselves. Let’s see if we can get even more of you at the meeting to celebrate the four years of continuing continuous success of for Scouting in Cambridge!
I do hope you will able to join us and I look forward to seeing you at Selwyn College.
Yours in Scouting
Chris Ward
District Commissioner
